Stable Diffusion is the open model that pulled the rug out from under everyone. It is free, you can run it on your own machine, and you can bend it in ways the closed tools will never allow.
Most of the slicker apps on this page are Stable Diffusion under the hood. If you want real control and no monthly fee, this is where you go, and it is why open source matters here.
The trade is effort. You need a decent GPU or a cloud notebook, and a little patience to set it up.
